Oh California

I have contracted the California bug. For a while, I thought about moving back East. Now that my very small family has been made smaller yet, I am questioning that idea. There is not a lot I find particularly desirable about the East Coast -- unbearable humid summers and depressing bone-chilling winters. The high expense and traffic can be found in California, but with the addition of nearly perfect weather and awesome beaches. Sure, there is always the risk of the stray earthquake or wildfire, but there is also the risk of a tornado or flooding back East.
I feel a strong connection to nature when I am in California, and I envision much more outdoor time than I get here in Las Vegas. It is rough to be holed up inside for five months until being outside is bearable.
I am ready to live somewhere that I feel a connection to mother Earth, somewhere my soul sings. A lot of things have to be put in motion before it can happen -- selling the house, finding jobs, saving up more money, etc. For now, while the economy is completely scraping bottom, we will probably stay put, but living in California is a fantastic future goal.

If I weren't so attached to friends and family on the Easy Coast, I've always thought California would be a wonderful place to move---the climate, the beaches, the overall environment. Sounds great to me :) I hope you can eventually make the move there---sounds like you'd really enjoy it! :)
hey there girly! it was so good to hear from you! expect a reply soon :)
i'll be in california in two weeks - my third time ever. i loved orange county - wasn't too keen on palm springs though. what area were you thinking about?
welcome back to the blogosphere!
We are thinking very southern -- like San Diego area. It is just fantastic. The weather is perfect. It is a lot like OC weather-wise. San Diego even gets better weather than Los Angeles, which is funny to think since it is more south.
As for Palm Springs, I think the climate/topography is very similar to Las Vegas to some extent. I am definitely not looking to move there!
one of my friends went to college out there and is still in love with the area. i'm visiting a bit further north than that this time - the san hose area actually. one of our groomsmen has an internship there and i thought it would be fun to visit him (and see the sights).
i thing i didn't like about palm springs was the lack of things to do. it was either spa treatments or shopping - and that was if you could afford it. maybe i was in the wrong area of palm springs? i shouldn't complain too much though, i went there for a work-related conference...making the trip free.
I've always thought I'd move west some day. Somehow, after graduation I head East instead. I'm not sure I'll ever make it to the other coast to live, but I definitely plan on visiting@
We thought about visiting Palm Springs one weekend till we realized there really wasn't much to do. Neither of us are golfers, and there are enough way-too-pricey stores and spas here.
I haven't been to northern CA, but I hear it is beautiful. I think driving down the coast will be our next big trip.
@ronnica: I never thought I'd end up in Las Vegas -- in fact, I actually said before that if there was one place I felt like I never needed to visit, it was Vegas. Life seemed to have different ideas!
