Is it Halloween?

Here I am blogging on Halloween night. It is almost 10:30 and not one child/teenager/adult has knocked on the door! This is the third year in a row that we have gotten absolutely no trick or treaters in our neighborhood. I know for a fact that there are at least three children living across the street. I can only come up with the following:
1. parents are buying their kids bags of Halloween candy so they don't have to trek out into the chilly 70 degree weather.
2. parents are really lame and only take their kids to like, malls and stuff.
3. kids are just too lazy to get up off their butts and walk from door to door to get candy.
4. all the people who live around us are religious freaks who don't let their kids celebrate Halloween.
5. the universal sign for FREE CANDY HERE! is not the lit porch light in this part of the country.
I am not sure which one, or which combination of ones, is keeping the kids away from the free candy we have waiting by the door. FREE CANDY. Come on, kids! Your video games will still be there when you get back.
What do you think is keeping them away?

Well, just want to say that I took my son trick-or-treating in our corner of the world (Austin, Texas) and had loads of fun. Granted, plenty of houses were dark, but lots of candy was gotten anyway. One house had a high fence, two barking dogs, and a giant neon green sign the screamed "NO SOLICITING!" and I thanked the gods they weren't my neighbors, but some adults actually opened their doors in costume! There's hope for the world.
Hi Marta. I'm glad that you had a blast with your son! It's good to hear that Halloween is still alive and well in Austin. :]
