Sacred Life Sunday: Space

>> Sunday, October 12, 2008

As the weather starts to make itself bearable and the sun casts its golden last rays of light earlier and earlier each day, I find myself wanting to carve out a space for myself. Pretty quickly that turns my mind to the (peach) guest bedroom, which I feel I've been letting go to waste. Now, don't get me wrong. I love to have guests. But honestly, we don't get all that many who stay at the house. Really only a couple of times a year. So to me it felt like that room was dwarfed by a double bed and because of that I haven't been using the peach room at all.

Before my mom visited in June, JP put our old desk in the room for her to use. We were going to get rid of it months ago when we got the new desk, but it didn't feel right. I'm really glad we didn't because it's gotten a great second purpose. I'm turning it into my creative space on which I'm not afraid to get messy and paint right over again and again.

Pushing the guest bed into the corner was easy and will be easy to readjust when guests do actually come to town. In the meantime, it has cleared up a good amount of floor space for me to do yoga or meditate whenever I please, which I plan to do at least a few times per week.

It's so nice to be in the process of tidying up this area of the house. Right now I consider it a meaningful work in progress. Having a dedicated space to go to will help me get back in touch with the part inside that I tend to neglect too often.

I wish I had a dedicated craft room/studio -- I do have a corner that works nicely though :)

Enjoy your newly discovered space!

We all need to dedicate more time (and a space) for our inner work. I've rededicated myself to Bible study this week and it feels good. I also need to set up a yoga workout space. Hmmm.
